Artist Information

Yoasobi

Yoasobi, a Japanese pop duo established in 2019 under Sony Music Entertainment Japan, consists of Vocaloid producer Ayase and singer-songwriter Lilas Ikuta, known by the moniker Ikura. They are recognized for their "novel into music" concept, initially creating songs based on selected short stories from Monogatary.com, a creative writing platform affiliated with their label. Over time, their sources expanded to include works by professional authors, books, letters, and plays.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, Yoasobi gained widespread acclaim with their debut single "Yoru ni Kakeru," which dominated the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart for six non-consecutive weeks in 2020 and achieved diamond certification for streaming from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), a first for the country. Additional songs such as "Gunjō," inspired by Blue Period, "Kaibutsu," the opening theme of Beastars, and "Idol," the opening theme of Oshi no Ko, also earned diamond certifications. "Idol" notably held the top spot on the Japan Hot 100 for 22 non-consecutive weeks, setting a record and marking Yoasobi as the first Japanese act to lead the Billboard Global Excl. US chart.

In their discography, Yoasobi released three Japanese EPs titled The Book, The Book 2 (2021), and The Book 3 (2023), all peaking at number two on the Oricon Albums Chart. They also launched three English EPs: E-Side (2021), E-Side 2 (2022), and E-Side 3 (2024). Beyond music, the duo collaborated with four Naoki Prize-winning novelists to produce the short story collection Hajimete no in 2022, intertwining songs with each narrative. Their contributions to music earned them numerous awards, including Japan Gold Disc Awards, CD Shop Awards, MTV Video Music Awards Japan, Japan Record Awards, Noma Publishing Culture Award, and a Crunchyroll Anime Award.

Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku, known by her official code name CV01, is a Vocaloid software voicebank created by Crypton Future Media. She is represented as a 16-year-old girl with long turquoise twintails, serving as Crypton's anthropomorphic mascot character. Miku has been marketed as a virtual idol and has gained fame for her live virtual concerts where she appears as an animated projection on stage using rear-cast projection on a specially coated glass screen.

Miku utilizes Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid 2, Vocaloid 3, and Vocaloid 4 singing synthesizing technologies, alongside Crypton Future Media's Piapro Studio, a standalone singing synthesizer editor. Initially released as the second Vocaloid using the Vocaloid 2 engine, she was the first Japanese Vocaloid to leverage the Japanese version of this engine. The voice data is based on the recordings of Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita.

Her name is derived from the combination of the Japanese words for "first" (初, hatsu), "sound" (音, ne), and "future" (ミク, miku), symbolizing "the first sound of the future." This name, along with her code name CV01, signifies her role as Crypton's inaugural "Character Vocal Series" member, predating Kagamine Rin/Len (CV02) and Megurine Luka (CV03). Official artwork features the number 01 on her left shoulder as a nod to her designation.
