Casiopea
Casiopea, named after the Cassiopeia constellation, now known as Casiopea-P4 in its fourth phase, is a Japanese jazz fusion band that originated in 1976. It was founded by guitarist Issei Noro, bassist Tetsuo Sakurai, drummer Tohru "Rika" Suzuki, and keyboardist Hidehiko Koike. Over time, they evolved with new members like keyboardist Minoru Mukaiya and drummer Takashi Sasaki. The band gained recognition with their debut album "Casiopea" in 1979, featuring collaborations with renowned American jazz musicians Randy Brecker, Michael Brecker, and David Sanborn. Drummer Akira Jimbo later joined in 1980. Casiopea has an extensive discography of more than 40 albums released globally.
In 2012, they introduced Casiopea 3rd as a separate project, including Kiyomi Otaka on keyboards alongside original members Issei Noro, Akira Jimbo, and Yoshihiro Naruse. Recently, on July 1, 2022, Casiopea announced Yoshinori Imai as their new drummer post-Akira Jimbo's departure from Casiopea 3rd, leading to their rebranding as Casiopea-P4.
